Why is rehabilitation for self-care important?
Performing self-care may be important to a person because:
- Being able to perform self-care independently may make them feel more confident
- It may enhance their participation in home, school, work, and community life
- It can help maintain their dignity, such as avoiding bowel or bladder accidents or enabling independent toileting
- It may make them more self-sufficient and reduce their reliance on others, such as family members
- It may improve their health, such as reducing their risks of malnutrition, poor personal hygiene, isolation, illnesses like urinary tract infections (UTIs) and falls, which can help prevent admission to hospital.
