2.3. Lying active assisted shoulder flexion

Lying active assisted shoulder flexion 


Movements strengthened: Shoulder flexion strength. 

Suitable for: 0-2/5 shoulder flexion strength. 


Instructions: 

  • Person lying on back with both hands on the chest interlocked at the fingers 
  • Stabilize the shoulder and hold onto hand 
  • Move the arm forward and above the head slowly 
  • Hold for 5 seconds and then slowly return 
  • Repeat 10 times 
  • For active-assisted movement, assist by supporting weight of arm above bed and encourage as much independent movement as possible 


Where this movement should be felt: 

Person should feel this in their anterior and lateral shoulder.
