Set a goal
Set a rehabilitation goal
For muscle strengthening, it is important to have a functional goal for rehabilitation so that exercises can be planned that are relevant to the person’s goals.
Setting goals can also provide motivation for the person doing the exercises.
Example
Remember Sachin?
Sachin’s goal is to return to working in his family business. To be able to do this he needs to be able to spend up to 30 minutes at a time on his feet and walking around the fruit and vegetable store over an 8-hour shift. He also needs to be able to lift and carry up to 5kg boxes of fruit and vegetables.
Based on this information, as the clinician, you could plan exercises that help Sachin achieve his goal, by strengthening his standing and walking and being able to lift boxes similar to his duties in the store.
