8.1. Standing heel raises

Standing heel raises 


Movements strengthened: This exercise helps to improve ankle plantarflexion strength. 

Suitable for: Use this exercise for people with 3-5/5 ankle plantarflexion strength. 


Instructions:

  • Person standing holding on to solid object for support 
  • Slowly rise up on to toes so that both heels are off the ground 
  • Hold for 3 seconds and slowly lower heels to ground
  • To progress, can do on single leg only 


Where movement should be felt: 

Person should feel this in the back of the lower leg.
